Void, itself.

WooW Apps is now VOID STD. A new name, a new mark, the same apps.

Starting today, the studio behind ImageFlux, Brackt, Flattr, Exporty, Yip IPTV and Spot Light Meter goes by a new name: VOID STD.

The apps don't change. Your purchases, subscriptions and settings stay exactly where they are. What changes is the name on the door, and the way we think about the work behind it.

Why the void

Every app starts from nothing. A blank canvas, an empty file, a void. The work is deciding what earns its place, and cutting away everything that doesn't.

We leave the three letters after VOID open on purpose. Read them however you like.

One slab, one cut

The new mark is built on a 3 × 3 grid. A solid square slab, with a single wedge cut from the top:

  • the wedge spans exactly the middle third
  • the cut goes two thirds deep, leaving a solid plinth below
  • the void it leaves is exactly one ninth of the slab: one cell of the grid

Apps from the void.

It's a small piece of architecture: a mass, a cut, and the light that falls into it. That's the brief for every app we make.
